Israel's Hope

Is there a God? | Who am I? | What is the purpose of life?
Why is the world the way it is? | Is Jesus the Messiah? | Is this all there is?

Is There A God?

The Bible never questions the existence of God, it is stated as a fact, "In the beginning God..." (Genesis 1:1). People would have us to believe that the only way we can prove God's existence is by utilizing the scientific method of observation -- we only believe in what we can see, touch, smell, hear, or taste. But the Bible tells us God is spirit, not material -- supernatural, not natural (John 4:24). So here we have a dilemma - how do we prove the existence of a spirit being by using scientific methods that only work with material objects?

We know believers have put forth many arguments such as cause and effect, God being the First Cause- the first (conservation of mass-energy) and second (increasing disorder) laws of thermodynamics but these excellent proofs also deal with the material world.

The Bible states, "No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him" (John 1:18). It is Jesus' life, death, burial and resurrection that testify perfectly to the reality of God. God also reveals Himself in nature, (Psalm 19:1 ) and in the scriptures: "search the scriptures -- for in them ye think ye have eternal life, and they are they which testify of me" (John 5:39).

We must never forget that God chooses to reveal Himself to us, we cannot demand He make an appearance or prove Himself by our standards. Scripture states "...that which may be known of God is manifest in them -- for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead -- so that they are without excuse: because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God neither were thankful, but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools" (Romans 1: 19-22).

Psalm 97:6 tells us "the heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory". Can't get much clearer than that - all people see God's glory so there is no excuse to deny His existence.
