What Is The Purpose Of Life

The Bible speaks to this in Revelation 4:1l, "Thou art worthy, 0 Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created". We were created to give God pleasure and remarkably it gave God pleasure to create us!! What a liberating truth.

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth", Genesis 1: 1.

We are told in Isaiah 45:18 that God created the earth to be inhabited. The mind-boggling truth of Scripture tells us that God created man "in his image" and He gave us dominion over what He had created (Genesis 1:26). We are to be fruitful and increase and subdue the earth (Genesis 1:28). We are to do "culture", developing every area, every sphere of life and to bring honor and glory to God in all that we are and all that we do.

All things that were created before man were created for man's use and control. Even the angels were created as "ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation" (Hebrews 1:14). Our purpose in life is to develop the earth under the authority and supervision of God. We are not autonomous, we are not the measure of all things. We are servants of the living God.

We are told in Isaiah 43:7, "...I have created him for my glory, I have formed him: yea I have made him". Life is not random, chance or meaningless. It is ordered, defined and given meaning by the Creator, "for in Him we live, and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28a).
